Client – Side Profile Storage: a means to put the user in control
نویسندگان
چکیده
On user-devices profile storage As internet users, we provide personal information to a growing number of service providers with little or no control over its usage, and no means to properly track subsequent access of this information. Some companies have recently made announcements proposing to handle our personal information centrally, offering the possibility of a unified repository, but raising additional trust and privacy concerns. We propose an alternative to this trend by storing personal information on client devices, increasing the possibility of putting the user in control of his or her personal information. A user can have multiple heterogeneous devices, so this generates a need for the distribution of profile data. Profile management capabilities are required that ensure consistency of replicated data, data accessibility with low latency, security and privacy. In our scheme we have chosen an approach based on a coherency protocol well adapted to handle data migration, and are extending this protocol to incorporate trust-related features. Privacy-Enhanced Collaborative Filtering
Current implementations of the Collaborative Filtering (CF) algorithm are mostly centralized and the information about users (their profiles) is stored in a single server. Centralized storage poses a severe privacy hazard, since user profiles are fully under the control of the recommendation service providers. These profiles are available to other users upon request and are transferred over the...

The paper presents an MPEG−7 Multimedia Description Schemes (MDS)−based metadata and user profile model used within an enhanced DTV environment for semantic annotation and personalized access to multiple sports DTV services. It is shown that in order to enable intelligent and personalized processing, management and use of multimedia content and services, the use of application specific metadata...
متن کاملPredictive Client-side Profiles for Keyword Advertising
Current approaches to personalizing online advertisements rely on estimating user preferences from server-side logs of accumulated user behavior. In this paper, we consider client-side ad personalization, where user-related information is allowed to be stored only within the user’s control (e.g., in a browser cookie), enabling the user to view, edit or purge it at any time. In this setting, the...
متن کاملSupporting User Privacy Preferences on Information Release in Open Scenarios
Access control solutions for open systems are typically based on the assumption that a client may adopt approached specifically designed for the server to protect the disclosure of her sensitive information. These solutions however do not consider the specific privacy requirements characterizing the client. In this paper, we put forward the idea of adopting a different model at the client-side,...
متن کاملSecure Deduplication of Encrypted Data without Additional Servers
Encrypting data on the client-side before uploading it to cloud storage is essential for protecting users’ privacy. However client-side encryption is at odds with the standard practice of deduplication in cloud storage services. Reconciling client-side encryption with cross-user deduplication has been an active research topic. In this paper, we present the first secure cross-user deduplication ...
